When We First Met

‘When We First met’

“After spending a night with the girl of his dreams only to become just friends, a man gets the opportunity to travel through time and alter that night over and over again until he gets everything perfect.”

My love of time travel movies continues and I was excited when I saw this pop up on Netflix. I really liked Adam DeVine in ‘Modern Family‘ so I was sure I was going to enjoy this too.

I wasn’t disappointed! This is a fun watch and a great ‘feel good’ movie.

THE SONGS

There is a lot of jazz music featured in the film which has introduced me to a few cool new songs from the likes of Count Basie amongst others. However, my favourite song from the movie has to be ‘I Will Follow You‘ by RIVVRS.

The playlist is a real mixed bag of songs and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

The Middle

‘THE MIDDLE’

“In the Heck family, middle-age, middle-class, middle-America mom Frankie Heck uses a sense of humor to try to steer her family through life’s ups and downs as she tackles her career goals.”

I didn’t appreciate how awesome The Middle was until it was on Season 4 and I soon managed to catch up real fast. It’s so easy to watch and you can really believe in the characters.

It’s currently on Season 9 and this is the ‘farewell season’ and I for one will be very, very sad when it ends. I’m really hoping we have a finale that will leave all the fans satisfied.

I’m hoping for a flash forward final episode which will see a wedding and a new baby Heck. What about you?

Watch all seasons now on Amazon Video.

THE SONGS

There is no theme song for the show as such but I reckon that ‘The Middle‘ by Jimmy Eat World would be a good choice!

There are simply far too many great songs throughout the seasons that it’s impossible to mention them all. So go ahead, follow the playlist, watch the show and be prepared to fall in love with the Heck family!

Timeless

‘Timeless’

“When a group with nefarious intentions attempts to change the world as we know it by altering the past, Lucy, a historian, Wyatt, a soldier, and Rufus, a scientist, unite to form an unlikely partnership, traveling through time to save history.

Watch on Netflix or buy on Amazon.

I’ve always loved anything to do with time travel so when I discovered this show I was optimistic that it would be another addition to my collection. It did not disappoint!

There’s a different story each week but there is an underlying story arc which just keeps you guessing and wanting more. A must watch for fans of time travel related stuff!

Season Two of Timeless is due in March and I for one, can’t wait!

THE SONGS

The song used on the trailers and promos for Timeless is ‘Eve Of Destruction‘ by J2 feat. Lola

Due to the nature of the show, the songs featured come from a range of decades so there really is something for everyone.

Between

‘BETWEEN’

“A small town called Pretty Lake and surrounding rural area under siege from a mysterious disease that has wiped out everybody aged 22 and older. The series also explores numerous themes: the power vacuum that results when the government quarantines a 10 square mile zone and leaves the inhabitants to fend for themselves; the desire of inhabitants to escape, ignoring that they will spread the deadly disease to the entire planet; and the effect of hormonal teenaged/young adult angst becoming the guiding force for an entire community.

I watched both seasons of this show over a weekend – I was hooked! I really liked the storyline in the fact that we really had no idea why what was happening was actually happening. I felt as if I was trapped with the characters.

I really hope there is a third season as I think there is a lot more this show has to offer.

If you are a fan of trapped/quarantine type shows with characters that you can really believe then this is for you!

THE SONGS

As the plot centres on young people in a dark situation where there is a fair amount of nastiness going on the songs are quite rock centric. One of my favourite ‘lighter’ songs featured is ‘Moves‘ by The New Pornographers.

Schitt’s Creek

‘Schitt’s Creek’

“A wealthy video store magnate, and his wife, a formerly successful soap star lose their fortune when their business manager fails to pay their taxes. They are forced to rebuild their lives with their sole remaining asset: a small town named Schitt’s Creek which they had bought their son as a joke birthday gift years before

This is one of my favourite shows at the moment. Currently on Season 4 and I think the episodes are getting even better. I love all the characters for different reason but my favourite has to be Moira played by the awesome Catherine O’Hara. Although I loved her in Home Alone and Beetlejuice, for me, this is her best role!

I also love the family connection. Daniel Levy plays David brilliantly and does an amazing job of writing the episodes too. His dad in real life, Eugene Levy is probably best known for his role in the American Pie films as Jim’s Dad but again for me his role as the Dad in Schitt’s Creek is his best role!

Buy the DVDs or watch on Netflix.

THE SONGS

There’s a great mix of songs in the show – some classics and some modern. One of the latest songs featured in Season 4 is ‘Adore‘ by Amy Stark and I love it.

There isn’t a theme songs as such but if there was then I think that ‘Alvvays‘ by Party Police should be it.

Don’t delay get watching the DVDs or watch on Netflix today and then sit back, relax and enjoy some great music.

Cloverfield

‘CLOVERFIELD’

Cloverfield is an American science fiction horror anthology film seriesCloverfield is a found footage monster horror film released. 10 Cloverfield Lane, a spiritual sequel to the first film, is a psychological horror-thriller film. The Cloverfield Paradox, a science fiction horror film, was released by Netflix on February 4, 2018.

CLOVERFIELD (2008)

10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)

The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)

The first instalment in this series was released in 2008 and was of the “found footage” genre. It’s not to be watched alone or for the faint hearted but truly awesome.

The second instalment seemed to go off on a tangent but was definitely just as good. Try to imagine a ‘not so funny’ version of Kimmy Schmidt with Dan from Roseanne.

The latest instalment was surprise released by Netflix in a ‘Beyonce’ move and has gone a long way in tying all three films together with a view to having an epic grand finale still to come!

THE SONGS

There were a lot of awesome songs in the first movie and the second movie went kind of school classics which was a great touch. The third movie only had a couple of songs – well you don’t tend to get a lot of music in space, right?

Shameless

‘Shameless’

“The series depicts the dysfunctional family of Frank Gallagher, a single father of six children. While he spends his days drunk or in search of misadventures, his kids learn to take care of themselves.”

I was a huge fan of the original UK version of this show and was a little sceptical about how it would work with the US version but to say I was wrong to be sceptical is an understatement. I love how it evolved into an entirely different set of storylines. So much so that I caught up on all the previous seasons in one month!

Watch all seasons now on Amazon Video.

THE SONGS

The theme song is ‘The Luck You Got‘ by The High Strung.

There are simply far too many great songs throughout the seasons that it’s impossible to mention them all. So go ahead, follow the playlist, watch the show but remember kids – ‘say no to drugs!’

Rita

‘Rita’

“Following the life of a very outspoken and rebellious woman, Rita is a school teacher who is competent in the classroom, but seems to need a teacher of her own in her personal life.

It’s immediately obvious from the very first episode that Rita’s personal life is very, very complicated. Her unconventional and often highly confrontational approach to dealing with situations is definitely what makes this not only great drama but awesome comedy.

THE SONGS

The theme song for Rita is ‘Speak Out Now‘ by Oh Land.

As you might expect from a Danish TV show there is a lot of brilliant Scandi-music featured in the episodes. However, just like the show it’s not all happy, happy and upbeat pop and there’s a fair share of dark, sombre and hectic.
